At some point in your life, you would have toyed with this question, What is the purpose of

my life? Where am I going? What am I destined to be or do?

Based on the options placed before you and the choices that you would have made, you

would have got answers to the above questions - some satisfying, others extremely

You were born into a womb that you did not know; born to parents that you did not know;

cared for by people that you grew to accept; born into a life style that you had to adapt

to; born to automatically adopt the family occupation. None of this was your personal

choice. It all came with your physical birth.

Now there is nothing wrong with that!

But when you accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, you became born

again – by choice!  You chose to allow the Holy Spirit to take up residence inside you; you

chose to allow the Spirit of the Lord to bring life to your spirit which was earlier dead; you

chose to be translated from the power of darkness into the Kingdom of the Dear Son; you

chose to put aside a life of sin and allow the righteousness of God to be imputed on you;

you chose to bury the old man and rise in the newness of life in Christ Jesus, you chose

That is your purpose! That is where you are! That is what you are destined to be!!

What a privileged lot we are – to be part of the Kingdom of God!

Yes, Jesus has taken the victory for us at the cross. We are partakers of that victory; we

are joint heirs with Christ and all that He has conquered for us!

If you want to see a physical manifestation of this victory in your lives, you need to get

familiar with the Word of God.  The Bible is God’s mind and heart spoken through His holy

God’s counsel for us is very clear from Joshua chapter 1 verse 8 “This book of the law

shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou

mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make

thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.”

Let’s go straight to the outcome ! For that is always the exciting part !!

Notice that it is not just success, but good success!  Not just mediocrity, but GOOD

SUCCESS would probably mean the highest level and most satisfying accomplishment of

Coupled with PROSPERITY ! Prosperity is SHALOM – all round peace and prosperity! In all

spheres of our lives – health, deliverance, protection, preservation, soundness of mind!

Seriously?!!! This is certainly the most exciting part of being a conquerer!

Ok, lets understand how to achieve it !

What is the “Book of the Law” in Joshua 1:8?

It is the Word of God. In Jesus’ own words in John 6:63, “the words that I speak unto

you, they are spirit, and they are life.”

And then again, Jesus also says in Matthew 4:4 “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by

every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.”

So, this is the Word of God which came forth from the mouth of God; which is Spirit, and

The key words are in Joshua 1:8 are MEDITATE DAY AND NIGHT and OBSERVE TO DO.

We are to spend time with our Bibles, reading God’s Word and meditating on what is

Be not forgetful hearers, but be doers of the Word. That is the second part; to apply all

that we read or hear. Walk according to every Word that we have been given the grace to

Now let’s go back to Joshua 1:8 again. Read the second part of the verse …. “…written

therein; for then THOU SHALT MAKE …..”

Yes, you got it! THOU SHALT MAKE simply means it is a work that has to be brought

about by you! It is your effort! The extent to which you will prosper and have good success

is directly proportional to the effort that you make to read, meditate and observe to do

If it has to be your success, it has to be your effort!

Remember, the work in the Spirit is a done job – Jesus Christ has finished the work at the

Cross; He has given you the victory.

But to bring it into the physical realm, it is now up to you!

But take heart! Be encouraged! When you do what the Word tells you to do, you will get

what the Word says you will get! Go ahead, pick up your Bibles; read, mediate and do what

the Word tells you, and according to Deuteronomy 28:2 see God’s blessings “come upon

I would like to close with this word of counsel from Joshua 1:9, “Have not I commanded

thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the

LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.”

Walk according to the Word of God and see your conquest manifest right before your eyes!
